It’s Spring On The McKenzie

March 26th, 2010

This past week on the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers there has been some fantastic summer-like days. The combination of great hatches, gorgeous Redside Rainbows and cutthroat trout, as well as local wildlife made for some ”epic” days as the kids would say. The best and worst part of the days are the hatches. The caddis are so abundant right now that when  the hatch kicksinto full swing you are competing with millions of natural bugs. We were having good success with fishing a similar or slightly different pattern or size compared to the naturals. Success also increased later in the day when the caddis started to die down a bit and the March Browns started to emerge. The fish are still looking up but there is not as much food on top.
